Featuring reviews, author biographies, and special features, Romance Reviews consists of mysteries and other works of fiction, not just romance, but there will always be some romance included.
Word from the EditorRomance Reviews has always been intended as a guide to romantic reading. It is meant to help you decide on what to read next, on which books to buy. Now you can print out the pages under Reviews Revisited and use it as a personal guide to good reading. (Under view, you can reduce the print to the smallest.) Keep it in your purse, perhaps, as you go to the book store.
If you read a good book by a new author, it is only natural to want to go back and read other books by that same author. They may be older books, but does that make them any less enjoyed?
Romance Reviews treats new and older books equally because their enjoyment is equal.
A personal comment:
I can only go by what pleases me, but I always keep in mind that others may disagree. I try to consider more than my personal likes and dislikes in each rating, but - in the end - I must be true to how I feel.
If I tend to have more high rated books than lower rated ones, it is because I am choosy in what I read and try to avoid wasting my time on a book I don't think I will appreciate. I try to pick authors who have pleased me in the past and are favorites. But I still try new authors.
On my soapbox:
I can understand the various reasons a publisher reissues older books. That's often welcomed. I can even understand when they combine more than one book under one cover and then re-title it, but I really do get upset when they reissue an older book and then re-title it. How many times has someone thought it a new book by that author, only to later discover they have bought a book they have already read? Foul, I say! That's unfair and sneaky. Shame on the publishers who do this!
A recent example of this is the book by Susan Wiggs titled At the King's Command. This is an updated version of the 1994 book called Circle in the Water, altho the copyright reads 2009 (for this new title). This is not fair to the consumer and I cry FOUL! The publisher is MIRA.
Final word:
Everyone reads a romantic novel for a different reason. Therefore, each person looks for something different in their reading. What is hot, sexy and compelling to one person, may be revolting, disgusting and pornographic to another. One person may like one author's straight-forward style, while another may find that author too simplistic. I have commented on each book from my own perspective and certainly do not expect everyone to agree with me. I invite your comments.
